Recent Advancements of Magnetic Nanomaterials in Cancer Therapy

Looking to revolutionise current cancer treatment therapy, researchers are pursuing and innovating a novel cancer cell treatment that is localised and specific to the cancer cells in question. Through the use of magnetic nanoparticles, researchers hypothesis that we can harness the ability of these nanoparticles to selectively target and bind to cancer cells and elicit cell apoptosis through magnetic hyperthermia, which is the generation of heat energy when an alternating magnetic field is applied to it.

Not only does this method reduce the number of surrounding cell death thus reducing advisory side effects; the particle itself has the inherent ability to be detected by MRI scans which enables healthcare professionals to note the current state of cancer tumors in real-time!
